Score: Lost 3:2 in an excellent close-fought match

After a thorough soaking at training the day before, it was a pleasure to have fantastic warm and sunny weather for the match against the Panthers, held at South Reading Sports Centre.

Our team put on a great performance, pulling together well, especially considering it was their first match together for three weeks. The first goal went to the opposition but they had to fight hard to get it. We pulled back with a great goal scored by Ben Cotterell in a nice finish, but ended the first half two-one down.

Particularly impressive in the opposition was their number 5 attacker, Rob, who posed a constant threat and kept our players on their toes throughout the whole game.

The Panthers scored another goal midway through the second half, leaving us three-one down. But despite this the teams seemed evenly matched and ten minutes before the final whistle Toby Brown pulled back another goal, controlling the ball well to get past the goalie and place the ball in the net - great goal!

Both teams worked hard right to the whistle but our hopes for another goal were thwarted, leaving the final result three-two down. One of those games where we feel we should have drawn, could have won... but nevertheless our team played really well and all should be proud.

As a final comment it's worth saying that the ref and linesmen were really excellent. Sadly it's not always the case, but with all supplied by the ooposing team we can only thank them for an extremely balanced and fair approach, well done. The management and parents of the Panthers were also exceptionally friendly which makes for an enjoyable match. The venue is excellent with at least four very well-kept pitches and the benefit of the sports centre facilities. We look forward to playing the Whitley Wood panthers again, at our home ground in Pangbourne (February 5th) where we plan to even the score...
